This year, Taste of Auckland in partnership with Electrolux is honouring a milestone for one of the country’s leading chefs. It’s been 30 years since Peter Gordon first founded The Sugar Club.
The godfather of fusion cuisine, Peter Gordon is a legend, renowned for decades of pushing boundaries, innovating and creating dishes unlike anything New Zealand had ever before seen.
Studying, travelling, and cooking extensively throughout his formative years in Australia, Asia and Europe, Peter founded the original The Sugar Club in Wellington, in 1986. Thirty years on, he’s made superfans of food critics, friends of industry giants, and trail blazers out of chefs who learnt the ropes under his wing.
On Saturday night, Taste of Auckland in partnership with Electrolux is proud to present a rare, magnificent celebration on The Sugar Club’s 30th anniversary in the Hospitality Marquee. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime culinary explosion, hosted by Peter and a handful of the most decorated chefs to have worked with him in the kitchens throughout the years – including Che Barrington (Blue Breeze Inn and Woodpecker Hill) and Pip Wylie (Onlow Bar & Eatery), and Neil Brazier (The Sugar Club, Sky City Auckland). You can also find Peter Gordon in the Electrolux Taste Theatre on Saturday afternoon, demonstrating some of his favourite dishes in a unique and intimate setting. Timetables coming soon.
