Your guide to summer wines at Taste

Sip, sample, swirl and shop, with free wine tastings and scheduled masterclasses presented by charismatic wine experts – there’ll be a wine waiting for you. Visitors will enjoy a tasting journey around New Zealand and the world with a multitude of award-winning wines on offer and vintages to suit any budget.

 

Crafters Union are the Official Wine Sponsor of the festival this year, with their festive wine being poured throughout our VIP areas and a beautiful large Star Marquee in the centre of the show. Crafters Union offer distinctive, beautifully wrapped wines that are as visually appealing as the way they taste. Their talented team are creating a ‘Best Dressed’ wall within their stand and encouraging Taste Lovers to pose and post on Instagram using the hashtag #CraftersMoochiBestDressed. Moochi will then award two people the best dressed at Taste of Auckland title and a $500 Moochi voucher each.

Wine Marlborough are bringing eight boutique award-winning Marlborough wine brands to Taste of Auckland who’ll be selling by the glass and bottle: Framingham; Seresin Wines; Spy Valley; Staete Landt; Te Pa Wines; Tohu Wines; Two Rivers; and Zephyr Wines. They will be hosting an exciting series of masterclasses delivered by the doyen of New Zealand wine, Bob Campbell MW, throughout every session of the event. Negociants have appeared at Taste of Auckland every year since the first festival in 2009. This year, they bring four amazing brands including: Nautilus Estate‘s delicious food-friendly wines from the clean, cool and diverse valleys of Marlborough; Gladstone-based favourites Urlar and their outstanding single vineyard organic and biodynamic varieties; boutique Hawkes Bay vineyard Black Barn‘s small batch premium wines that are often only available through the cellar door or online; and JOIY, sparkling wine to make your heart sing with effervescent ecstacy.

 

We will be joined by the birthplace of New Zealand wine this year. Mission Estate was established by Missionaries in Hawke’s Bay in 1851 and their first record of a commercial sale dates back to 1870 when a parcel of mostly dry reds was sold. By combining the traditional craft of winemaking with the latest technology, Mission Estate are reaching out to a new generation of wine lovers across the globe. The Mission VS Merlot 2015 won ‘Champion Merlot’ at the 2017 Royal Easter Show. At the 2016 Air New Zealand Wine Awards the Mission Reserve Syrah 2015 was named Champion Syrah and the Reserve Cabernet Franc 2014 was Champion in the Exhibition Red Wine catergory. You can invest in flights of 30ml tastings of superior wines from Spain, Italy and France at show prices.

 

United Cellars employ a team of Cellar Angels, dedicated to sourcing customers the very best wine and committed to delivering “The Greatest Wine Experience”. Angels will be on-site at Taste offering individual tastings of selected wines only available from United Cellars. They will also be presenting regular, vertical vintage flights of local and international fine wines, including a spectacularly priced end-of-line offering from one of Waiheke Island’s best winemakers, every 15 minutes.

 

The New Zealand Wine Society has been selling wine direct to Kiwis for more than 25 years. Each of the 600 wines they sell is tasted and approved by a Tasting Panel which includes Cellar Director Vic Williams and award-winning winemakers Jo Gear, Nick Badrice and Jeremy McKenzie. Taste of Auckland will be the first opportunity many visitors have to meet the New Zealand Wine Society team including Jo and Vic and taste some of their huge range.

 

Leftfield wines reflect their makers’ whimsical approach to exploration, creativity and imagination. It is the birthplace of the unexpected, the weird and the wonderful. Featuring wine from a variety of wine growing regions and varieties, Leftfield are pulling out all stops with a stand-alone bar and seating area at Taste this year.

 

Yealands Family Wines has quickly become a global leader in sustainable wine production. Since launching in 2008, they have won 25 trophies, most recently their Babydoll Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017 was awarded “Best in Show: Best Sauvignon Blanc” at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2017. They will have many of their award-winning wines on offer at their wine bar, where you will also be able to enjoy a glass in their seated area.
